A unique 13th brewing in Williamstown, New Jersey
13th Child Brewery
At Summerfields Friendly Village all age community here in Williamstown, New Jersey you have a neighborhood success story against all odds considering the universal back luck associated with the number 13. That would be the 13th Child Brewery. The brewery was started with three men each holding a determined commitment to brew the finest products and do some so as a contributor to the community. Tom, Steve, and Justin opened their brewery in 2018 after their beer became a hit among friends and neighbors, not to mention award-winning.
Steve MacNamara was a macro beer drinker when he read a column regarding some craft beers being brewed in the area. That experience set him on the course to make something unique. He was joined by Thomas Nahf who served in the Air Force where he met his wife whose father introduced him to the love of brewing beer. Justin Seaverns joined the team. He had served in the Navy after which he went to Alabama to attend school to learn how to make distilled alcohol which led to experimenting with brewing his own beer.
The proud brewers
A beautiful First National Bank building constructed in 1906 was restored to become their company home. More often than not people are curious about the origin of the brewery’s name.
The explanation goes as follows. Generally speaking, most people who live around the Pine Barrens, are aware of the folk lore of the Jersey Devil; rumored to have been the 13th child of the Leeds family. Mother Leeds had already birthed twelve children, after which she became pregnant with the thirteenth.
The story goes that in her surprise and unexpected pregnancy, she cursed the pregnancy and a devil was born, complete with wings, hooves, and the head of a goat. Someone is said to have made this comment regarding the 13th Child Brewery: “There’s no longer any cursing go on, because people are singing praise to the brews being offered.”
The 13th Child Brewery is the brainstorm of Steve MacNamara, Justin Seavernes, and Tom Nahf. The three came up with the name after a failed attempt to name their brewery Blue Anchor. After asking the public for help with the name, an onslaught on Jersey Devil themed names poured in.

Following many gyrations, the three came up with the name based on the Jersey Devil, and 13th Child became the company name. Located on the point between Main Street and Blue Bell Road in downtown Williamstown, New Jersey, the brewery offers all the charm and history you’d expect, and right in your own Williamstown backyard.
